Salinas de Janubi
These old salt-pans are only used on a small scale today.
At one time salt was the main export of the island now it is
minimal. There
are several salt festivals held on Lanzarote, where
pictures made from coloured salt are displayed. The salt pans are clearly visible and you can see
where the sea water is left to evaporate, leaving the salt
behind.
On the other side of the bay, beyond the salt-pans,
there is a car-park with a very pleasant restaurant, from
where you can walk along the black sand beach and admire the
coastline.
Thunderous waves crash onto the beach with the smell of salt in the clean
sea air at this picturesque area. |
