Jardine De Cactus was created by César Manrique in an
abandoned quarry. It is overlooked by a restored windmill
and the amphitheatre contains over 1,400 specimens of
cactus.
The cochineal beetle lives on the cacti and they are
collected for their dye. Like salt this dye was once an
important export commodity.
The César Manrique museum is well worth a visit for
the knowledge seeking visitor, to gain a better
understanding of the major influence he had over the unique
development standards of Lanzarote. |
